Family Vacation
Road Trip!
The date is set, plans are made.
The whole family is united in anticipation.
Everyone is helping to coordinate the final details in excitement.
It’s a recipe for success.
Fast forward…
Alarm clocks are ringing. The day is here!
Moments like these are what caffeine was made for.
The whole house is doing their best to hold it together.
Wiping morning crusties from their eyes and pretending to be happy morning people.
Someone stayed up too late, another is hungover.
Someones hogging the bathroom, another is just now packing.
One person actually went to bed on time and wants to engage in random small talk.
It’s a recipe for success.
Out the door and on the road.
Trapped together in a smaller space, and that small talk just keeps on coming.
Thank god the person with the most obscure music taste wants to control the stereo.
This is when everyone reeeally begins to notice that the “perfect plan” they’d all drawn up has some loose threads…
And throughout the trip that plan is going to unravel.
It’s inevitable.
With so much anticipation and so many expectations, many of which were never expressed verbally, things are bound to go wrong.
Nothing ever goes exactly as planned…
People get irritable, arguments arise, somebody sharts in the car, the possibilities endless.
By the end of it, everyone goes home questioning wether that experience was even worth the time and money spent…
And that’s how you know you had a good trip.
These are the memories we look back on most fondly.
Action packed adventures.
The obstacles, the emotions, the way the car smelled… that’s living.
Time passes and the trip becomes only a memory.
You know what’s great about memories?
Everyone typically forgets the bad, but they remember the good and the funny.
So, do I regret sharting in the car…?
Not anymore.
It’s funny!
